Employ for Ability is proud to partner with the Government of South Australia’s Office for Autism in an exciting initiative to build a more inclusive and neurodiverse workplace. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to creating meaningful employment opportunities for neurodivergent talent and fostering workplace environments where everyone can thrive.

As part of this collaboration, Employ for Ability is assisting the Office for Autism in recruiting two pivotal roles: an Office Manager and a Senior Project Officer, who will join their dedicated team at the Adelaide CBD office. These roles are critical to supporting the Office for Autism’s mission to champion neurodiversity and deliver impactful programs and initiatives across South Australia.

About the Office for Autism

South Australia is leading the way when it comes to Autism inclusion. For the first time in our State’s history the government of South Australia has established the Office for Autism to place Autistic voices at the heart of decision making and work towards improving outcomes for Autistic and autism communities in South Australia.

Through the development of policies and initiatives that support access, inclusion, awareness, opportunity, connection and belonging, the Office for Autism is working towards a state where Autistic individuals can live their best lives, and their families and communities are supported and valued.

What we do

The Office for Autism will work towards achieving positive change by:

  • supporting increased knowledge and understanding about autism
  • fostering greater connection and belonging for Autistic people, their families and communities
  • collaborating with government agencies to support the roll out of the Autism Inclusion Charter and State Autism Strategy. The Department of Human Services (DHS) has led the development of the state’s first draft Autism Strategy(external site)External Link and delivery of the Strategy is being supported by OFA.
  • proactively partnering with the private sector and the broader community to improve employment, wellbeing and community connection
  • addressing barriers to assessment and diagnostic services in South Australia

Screening Workshop

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in screening activities, held from Wednesday, January 8th to Friday, January 10th.

Assessment Day

Final shortlisted candidates will attend a half-day assessment at the Office for Autism on Tuesday, January 14th.

ASO6 Senior Project Officer – Office for Autism

Brief Description

The Senior Project Officer plays a key role in supporting the strategic objectives of the Office for Autism (OFA) within the Department for Premier and Cabinet (DPC). Reporting to the Director, this position focuses on developing and delivering projects that drive positive outcomes for the autistic and autism communities. The role involves research, project management, and cross-government coordination, as well as building meaningful relationships with stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include designing and implementing project plans, managing timelines, and ensuring activities align with the OFA’s strategic goals. The Senior Project Officer will also provide expert advice to senior managers, contribute to high-quality briefings and reports, and distribute accurate and current information to support innovative and effective project work. An understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks, as well as barriers impacting autistic and autism communities, is essential for this role.

ASO4 Office Manager – Office for Autism

Key responsibilities include overseeing operations such as records management, IT, human resources, financial processes, and workplace safety. The role also involves maintaining stakeholder networks, supporting high-level communication and correspondence, and providing executive support to senior managers. Additionally, the Office Manager will organise meetings, coordinate travel, and manage documentation to ensure the Office for Autism runs efficiently and effectively.
