About the Apollo Program

The Apollo Neurodiversity Program (Apollo) is one of the Department of Home Affairs’ initiatives that delivers tangible commitments to workplace diversity and inclusion. Apollo aims to attract and engage new staff identifying as neurodivergent, who are keen to develop their Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills.

Those who are neurodivergent often have an extraordinary ability for visual thinking, accuracy, and attention to detail. This can include those who:

  • are on the autism spectrum
  • have dyslexia
  • have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

These skills are invaluable in ICT roles including:

  • programming
  • testing
  • cyber security
  • business/system analysis.

Apollo offers a structured program that provides ongoing neurodiversity support and coaching to participants, supervisors, and teams across our ICT Division. Apollo offers satisfying and meaningful employment which will result in career pathway options for participants.

We will recruit Apollo participants annually through an affirmative measures recruitment process. We have designed an inclusive and supportive recruitment process to cater for the needs of neurodiverse candidates.

Apollo offers the following opportunities to participants:

  • an inclusive recruitment process
  • 12-month non-ongoing employment with a competitive salary
  • learning and development including on the job and formal training/qualifications
  • ongoing support and coaching throughout the program from an experienced Neurodiverse Consultant for participants and their supervisors
  • a dedicated internal Apollo Relationship Manager.

Before You Apply

Check your Eligibility

We will recruit Apollo participants through an affirmative measures recruitment process. Candidates must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • if offered a position, meet the requirements to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance and Home Affairs Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
  • have a diagnosis of a neurodiverse condition. This can include Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and other conditions described as neurodiverse.

If an applicant cannot present a clinical diagnosis to support their eligibility, they can provide confirmation of their known neurodivergent condition with other evidence. This may include:

  • a letter from a treating medical practitioner
  • proof of their record on any official Government systems, such as the Primary Disability listed in their Employment Services Assessment (ESAt). This will be with their registered employment service provider.

We are looking for neurodivergent candidates who are passionate about ICT. They need to be keen to learn ICT skills, and have a strong interest in a successful ICT career in the APS.
