Frequently asked questions
Do you work with all NDIS plans?
We can provide NDIS-funded services when the relevant funding is self-managed or plan-managed. At this stage we cannot claim against NDIA-managed funding (also known as agency-managed funding).
We support autistic people and people with ADHD and other neurodivergent profiles.
Which NDIS funding categories can be used?
Depending on the service and how your plan is structured, our clients commonly use funding from:
-
- Finding and Keeping a Job, including School Leaver Employment Supports, employment preparation and workplace support
- Increased Social and Community Participation under Capacity Building
- Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation under Core Supports; and/or
- Improved Daily Living Skills for some individual coaching and capacity-building supports.
The appropriate funding category will depend on the service, your goals and whether the funding in your plan is flexible or stated. We can discuss the likely funding category with you or your plan manager before services commence.
What if I don’t have an NDIS plan?
Individuals that don’t have an NDIS plan (or whose plan for whatever reason won’t fund the desired program or coaching) can self-fund.
Our NDIS practice is tailored to neurodivergent individuals with NDIS-level needs. We also offer a range of programs for neurodivergent adults already in the workforce, including those without an NDIS plan; visit our Training Programs page.
Why do I need to undertake an intake meeting before signing up to a program?
Before you begin a program, we ask you to complete an intake and assessment meeting with one of our accredited Developmental Educators.
This meeting helps us understand your goals, strengths, support needs and what you would like to achieve. It also gives us an opportunity to make sure the program is the right fit for you and that the proposed approach is likely to support your goals.
The intake process also helps us match you with the most appropriate coach and identify any supports or adjustments that may help you get the most from the program.
By taking the time to understand each participant before they commence, we can provide a more personalised, effective and positive program experience.
What neurodivergent conditions do you work with?
We have deep expertise with autism & ADHD in adults.
We welcome enquiries from and work with individuals with other neurodivergent conditions, e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia. We will transparently indicate whether we think we’re best placed to support you or provide referrals if we don’t think we’re the right fit for you.
Do you provide diagnostic assessments?
No. Our Developmental Educator assesses each person’s strengths, goals and support needs to recommend suitable services and strategies but does not provide formal diagnoses. If you are seeking a diagnosis, we recommend speaking with your GP.
What age groups do you work with?
We primarily work with adults and young people of school-leaving age. Our NDIS services support people transitioning into employment or further education and those building their independence.
We also offer a range of programs for neurodivergent adults already in the workforce, including those without an NDIS plan; visit our Training Programs page.
What is the difference between School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) and Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA)?
SLES is a group of NDIS-funded supports that help young people build the skills, confidence and independence needed to transition from school into employment.
IEA is an Australian Government employment service that helps eligible people with disability prepare for, find and maintain employment.
IEA providers assist with job searching, applications, employer connections and ongoing workplace support, but generally do not provide the immersive employment readiness and training provided by SLES.
Employ for Ability provides SLES but is not an IEA provider. We help set our participants up for success in the workforce and offer stepping-stones such as work experience, but we do not directly source employment.
How do I know if I have SLES funding, and how can I request it?
Check your NDIS plan for “Capacity Building – Employment Assistance”. Older plans may refer to “School Leaver Employment Supports” or “Finding and Keeping a Job”.
Your plan manager, support coordinator or NDIS contact can confirm your funding.
If SLES is not included, speak with your NDIS contact about your employment goals and the support you need to transition from school to work. You can raise this at your next plan reassessment or ask whether a change to your current plan is appropriate.
